City Springs Teachers Elena Gagnier Simmons and Dorothy Glewwe were two of the the top 10 semi-finalists for the 2018 Baltimore City Public Schools Teacher of the Year Award.
City Springs Elementary / Middle School student Tajma Burnside was selected to receive the The Baltimore City Youth Commission "We Are the Dream" Award. This award honors civically engaged youth under the age of 25 from Baltimore City, who emulate Dr. King's dream and passion for empowering and uplifting the community.
Principal Rhonda Richetta gave a presentation on Restorative Practices at the Sayra and Neil Meyerhoff Center for Families, Children and the Courts the Courts’ Tenth Annual Urban Child Symposium: Restorative Practices and the Urban Child: Rethinking School Discipline on April 4, 2018 the John and Frances Angelos Law Center. City Springs 5th grader, Cavoi, closed out the Symposium by leading attendees in a mindfulness breathing exercise.
The Maryland State Senate passed a resolution on April 5, 2018 to recognize City Springs Elementary/Middle School teacher Wyatt Oroke for his "dedication and commitment to education through empathy, critical thinking and social justice while fundraising for the victims of Hurricane Harvey."
City Springs Elementary / Middle Academic Coaches Stacey Hicks, Jenae Toulson, and Tiffany Key provided their second training for Hopkins students who volunteer at City Springs at the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School on April 6, 2016. They trained students in reading intervention strategies (Step Up and Duet Reading; gave an overview of Direct Instruction (DI); showed a video on how students learn to read using the DI curriculum; and provided a synopsis of Singapore math.

Muriel Berkeley was the founding president of the Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) which operates five Baltimore City charter schools that serve every family in their zoned neighborhoods. She founded BCP in 1996 and retired from BCP in 2012.
Berkeley taught for most of her career: in elementary school classrooms in North Hanover Township, New Jersey and Baltimore City; in middle school classrooms in Baltimore City; and in undergraduate and graduate school classrooms at Goucher College, Towson University and George Washington University. Berkeley earned a BA in Social Relations at Radcliffe College, Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Social Relations at the Johns Hopkins University.
Currently, Berkeley serves on the Advisory Board of Open Society Institute-Baltimore, the Board of Trustees of the International Institute for Restorative Practices (IIRP), and the Board of Trustees of the National Institute for Direct Instruction (NIFDI).
Commissioner Berkeley was appointed to the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners in 2015. She serves as a member of the Teaching & Learning Committee. ... See MoreSee Less
