Storytime With Govie, a recruitment event hosted by Govans Elementary School for families with children aged three to five in the Govans neighborhood, was a huge success. Held on August 15, the first-ever event was designed to introduce neighborhood families with young children to the Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) conversion charter school.

Parents and 13 or so preschoolers enjoyed hearing Govans’ Principal Bernarda Kwaw read dragon-themed stories – One Drowsy Dragon and Not Your Typical Dragon – and met Govie, the Govan’s mascot, a sweet, green dragon. Storytime wrapped up with each guest choosing two books to keep, a popsicle treat, and time to color.

The school plans to hold a similar event in December and again, in the spring.
