Several 6th through 8th grade scientists presented their impressive research at the 2025 Morgan State University (MSU) Science Fair for Baltimore City’s public schools, held on March 15 and sponsored by MSU’s Center for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Education.
Congratulations to each presenter and to our two award winners!
- 6th Grade Honorable Mention for Biological Sciences, Project: “The Test on Bacterial Growth”
- 6th Grade 1st Place, Engineering, Project: “Homemade Battery”
Middle School students were required to create a science project for the PEMS science fair, which was judged by a panel of teachers and administrators. Students worked individually or in groups on these projects. The weeks-long process covered several, critical skills:
- Brainstorming and identifying a scientific question or problem
- Formulating a hypothesis and designing and executing an experiment through a carefully constructed and followed research plan
- Analyzing results and drawing conclusions
- Presenting findings in a clear and organized manner visually and orally to judges
The hard work paid off for every student who experienced the depth of learning in such a hands-on research exploration and for the students who won the PEMS science fair and advanced to the City-wide competition.
