Each June, educators and administrators from the Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) attend the annual NWEA Fusion conference. The nonprofit NWEA, or the Northwest Evaluation Association, develops and oversees the annual assessments BCP uses to measure and guide its students’ academic performance, the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Growth assessments for students.
From June 25-27, 2025, several BCP staff members gathered in New Orleans for the “Spark Growth in the Big Easy” NWEA conference. It’s an invaluable opportunity to attend the NWEA conference, stay up-to-date on the latest MAP use and strategies, meet like-minded educators from across the country, and bond across the BCP network.
Attending were:
Alison Ambrose | Middle School Academic Coach | Pimlico Elementary / Middle |
Corey Debnam | Assistant Principal | Pimlico Elementary / Middle |
Charlotte Edwards | Data and Marketing Assistant | BCP |
Tetra Jackson | Principal | Frederick Elementary School |
Tom Judd | Testing Coordinator | Pimlico Elementary / Middle |
Keith Tabor | Math Opportunity Culture MCL | Pimlico Elementary / Middle |
Nneka Warren | Principal | Pimlico Elementary / Middle |
NWEA is an incredible learning opportunity. This year, there were a myriad of Math-centric sessions that discussed ways to better understand the reports and data that NWEA MAP provides. Presenters were engaging, knowledgeable, and provided opportunities to engage with other skilled educators throughout the U.S. We will be bringing back tangible strategies to better implement our curriculums and provide more well-rounded instruction to students in all grades.
