The Community Helpers Club at Pimlico Elementary / Middle School (PEMS) loves making a difference. This group of middle school leaders, led by Theresa Braxton, PEMS’ Community School Coordinator through the school’s lead agency, Park Heights Renaissance, and Shantel Carter, a PEMS Aducational Associate, plans and leads various projects in the school that benefit fellow students and the greater Park Heights community.

Recently, their dedication and service were recognized at the state-level. WBAL-TV followed the students as they washed uniforms and organized the school’s uniform closet for students who need uniforms.

On October 5, thirty-five PEMS students, Ms. Braxton, Ms. Carter, Principal Nneka Warren, and other PEMS educators attended the Baltimore Ravens game. The club was joined by the young women in Pimlico’s Helping Embrace Radiance (H.E.R.) Mentoring program, an after-school mentoring program also run and co-founded by Ms. Braxton and Ms. Carter.

The pair had applied for donated tickets through the Ravens. At the game, PEMS students and educators received a citation from Gov. Wes Moore, stating:

… Because of your demonstration of high integrity and ability, meriting our great trust and respect, we are most pleased to award the Governor’s Citation in appreciation of your services to the citizens of this State.”

We are so proud of our student leaders in the Community Helpers and H.E.R. Mentoring programs. They are role models for our student body and for adults. Being on WBAL, attending the Ravens’ game as the team’s guests, and receiving a Governor’s Citation is well-deserved recognition for their enthusiastic, impactful service to our community.
