Students at Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) neighborhood conversion charter schools are on the move—literally! This spring, BCP proudly unveiled three new school vans, bringing a fresh burst of energy and opportunity to Frederick Elementary School and Pimlico Elementary / Middle School.

Pimlico received two vans, while Frederick received one—all Ford Transit vehicles, each capable of holding up to 15 passengers. Brightly wrapped in school colors and logos, the vans are turning heads as they transport students across the Baltimore region. These vehicles are more than just transportation; they’re symbols of school pride and tools for expanding educational horizons.

Having a dedicated school van offers a wide range of benefits. It allows schools to plan more frequent and flexible learning experiences beyond the classroom—without the need to coordinate third-party transportation. This means easier access to local museums, college campuses, community service projects, and cultural events. For many students, especially in under-resourced areas, these opportunities can be transformative, sparking new interests, building confidence, and connecting classroom learning to the real world.

The vans are also a game-changer for school athletics. They provide reliable transportation for sports teams to travel to games and tournaments across the city, ensuring students can fully participate in extracurricular activities without transportation being a barrier.

This latest investment builds on BCP’s commitment to equity and access. In 2016, Hampstead Hill Academy and in 2018 City Springs Elementary / Middle School received their own vans, establishing a legacy of mobility that supports the whole child—not just academically, but socially and experientially.

With the roads now open to new possibilities, the BCP community is excited to see where these new rides will take them next.
