Each May, the nation observes National School Principal’s Day on May 1, a day to mark the many ways, every day, principals transform schools and communities.
Baltimore City Public Schools, the educational partner of Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP), recognizes the need for school leaders to inspire and model the values and approach they wish to see throughout their school communities. To foster this and to create clear leadership pathways, City Schools created its Distinguished and Transformational Principals program. Principals apply for this prestigious program.
Congratulations to Bernarda Kwaw, Principal of Govans Elementary School, for receiving Transformational status this school year. She embraces the program’s goal to recognize “school leaders who demonstrate a transformative impact on the lives and learning experiences of students, teachers, partners, and school communities.”
Ms. Kwaw joins her BCP colleagues in receiving honors from the City Schools’ program, which was created in partnership with the Public School Administrators and Supervisors Association (PSASA):

Harold S. Henry, Jr.
BCP’s Director of Schools and former Frederick Elementary School Principal
Transformational recognition in 2021.
Matt Hornbeck
Principal of Hampstead Hill Academy
Transformation award in 2015 and Distinguished honors (2021) for meeting the program’s selection criteria: “A leader who has distinguished themselves based on having a broader positive impact, and who [is] interested in expanding this impact in the district by leading an improvement effort.”
Dr. Rhonda Richetta
Principal of City Springs Elementary / Middle School
has also been awarded Transformational in 2015 and Distinguished honors in 2021.
