Two Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) Principals are featured in the Baltimore Banner article, “Baltimore’s education dynasty gathers around a Roland Park dinner table” (October 16, 2025).
The article by education reporter Liz Bowie tells the story of Matt Hornbeck, Principal of Hampstead Hill Academy (HHA), his brother Mark Gaither, Principal of Wolfe Street Academy, and their family’s long tradition of supporting and advocating for public school education in Baltimore. Their father, David Hornbeck, former superintendent of the Maryland State Department of Education, recently founded Voices for Restorative Schools, a nonprofit committed to extending the promise and purpose of Restorative Practices to all public schools in Maryland.
BCP and the Hornbeck brothers, through their long tenures as BCP Principals, are champions and pioneers of the Restorative Practices and the community school model in Baltimore City Public Schools. Watch the video of the new short documentary, “Restorative Practices Make Strong Schools, which features Matt Hornbeck, HHA, and another BCP school, City Springs Elementary / Middle School.
