BCP assumed operation of Collington Square School in 2002 when it joined the New Schools Initiative. Collington Square is a public elementary/middle school that serves grades pre-K through eight. Located in East Baltimore, Collington Square serves 466 students in grades pre-kindergarten through eight.

The student population is 99.8% African-American and .2% Native American. Most of the students come from families living below the poverty line. Collington Square is a school-wide Title I school with 94.6% percent of the students eligible for free/reduced price meals.

From 2003-2005, Collington Square's 3rd grade reading scores increased by 385% while the math scores increased by 464%. BCP converted Collington into a charter school in 2005.

• The Abell Foundation provides grants and other support to Collington.
• Church of the Redeemer volunteers come to Collington Square School to read, listen and talk with children about books. They talk with parents about their needs and concerns, and mentor adolescents.
• East Baltimore Mental Health Partnership provides student mental health services.
• Episcopal Community Services of Maryland runs The Club at Collington Square, a free after-school program for Collington students.
• The Family League of Baltimore City provides funding and technical support for the Collington Square Community School Initiative.
• Harcourt Achieve partnered with the Achievement Initiative for Maryland Minority Students (AIMMS) program to donate a total of 8,000 books to Collington and other city schools.
• The Legal Aid Bureau oversees the Mock Trial Club, Youth Council, monthly Legal Clinics, and student educational sessions.
• The Maryland Food Bank works with Collington Square School to provide food for the community.
• The U.S. Dream Academy and International Medalist Association support the After-School Learning Academy, a free after-school program for Collington students.
• MSDE's 21st Century Community Learning Center Program provides funding and technical support for the After-School Learning Academy.
• Murphy and Dittenhafer Architects designed Collington's library renovation in Fall 2005 pro-bono.

Extra-curricular Programs

• The Collington Square Community School Initiative provides educational and social services for the Collington Square community.
• The Creative Alliance offers mini-courses at Collington such as Storytelling & Cartooning, Literacy through Photography, and Hip Hop Theater in partnership with the Baltimore Curriculum Project.
• The Baltimore Museum of Art's Close Encounters program provides an in-depth six-week art experience for Baltimore City fourth graders.
• Sankofa Dance Theater provides mini-courses in African Dance.
